Community Compass Series: Compassionate Communication - Disputanta, KY

What skills do we most need to build sustainable, heart centered community? Join Play Ashram and Clear Creek Schoolhouse for the first in an ongoing series of community building conversations, workshops and events. This week, we begin our journey in the East - home to the element of Air and the space between us - with an introduction to Compassionate Communication.

These days it seems that everyone is talking about practical skills. Skills that can help us be less dependent on systems and structures that are not aligned with our values and ideals. Skills that may help us adapt to a world that is changing rapidly and a planet that, along with her inhabitants, faces numerous threats. Skills like plumbing, electrical work, permaculture, even ancestral skills like hunting and foraging: all of these are important and it is promising to see that they are, more and more, being taught and shared widely. But perhaps the most critical skill -- the absence of which can hobble even the most resource-rich communities -- is that of Compassionate and Conscious Communication.

How would our lives and our communities look if we all communicated better – with clarity, precision and compassion?

AN EXPLORATION & PRACTICE OF COMPASSIONATE COMMUNICATION

Discussion & Workshop 2pm-4pm

Play Ashram @ Clear Creek Schoolhouse

1882 Hammonds Fork Road

Disputanta, KY 40456

The purpose of Compassionate Communication (or Non-violent Communication) is to become more aware of the language we are using in order to accurately express what really matters to us, and also to hear what really matters to others. It involves empathic communication whereby we can attune ourselves to both our own and other people's true feelings and needs.

This will be a fun and connecting exploration that may help you communicate with more clarity, understanding and ease – it might just change your life!

We will explore and practice:

non-judgemental observation

empathic and reflective listening

accurately identifying feelings and needs

making specific requests

Make it “a day on the farm” if you like…

10am - Clear Creek Coffee Social

(happens every Sunday at 10am, rain or shine!)

Consider coming early to enjoy exploring and connecting with the land and the people.

2-4pm Communication Workshop

5pm Potluck

(bring a dish to share)

6:30pm Play Ashram Fire Puja

(experience the ancient vedic fire ceremony that we end each day in ashram with)
